Pregnancy and Prenatal Chiropractic Care Denver Maternity Chiropractor

Pregnant and Hurting

Back pain keeping you up at night? Hips killing you when you walk? Sciatica shooting down your leg? Round ligament pain making you wince every time you move?

Yeah, pregnancy’s beautiful and all. But it also hurts.

At Glendale Chiropractic in Denver, we’ve been helping expectant mothers for 14+ years. As your Denver chiropractic provider, we offer gentle adjustments and safe techniques specifically for care during pregnancy. Relief without drugs.

Most women feel better within a few visits. Sleep better. Move easier. Have less pain during delivery.

What Pregnancy Does to Your Body

Your body changes crazy fast when you’re pregnant. And we’re not just talking about the belly.

Hormones mess with your joints – Relaxin loosens everything up so your pelvis can spread for delivery. Great for birth. Terrible for stability. Your joints get all wobbly. Stuff shifts out of place easier.

Everything tips forward – Baby grows, your belly pulls you forward. Lower back curves more trying to keep you upright. That’s where the back pain comes from.

Hips spread – Making room. Hurts while it’s happening. SI joints, pubic bone, all of it.

Posture goes to hell – Shoulders round. Head goes forward. Neck and upper back start screaming.

Weight you’re not used to – Twenty-five, thirty pounds. All in front. Spine and hips trying to handle it.

This is all normal pregnancy stuff. Doesn’t mean you just deal with it.

Common Pregnancy Pains We Treat with Therapy

Lower back pain – The big one. Most pregnant women get this. That curve in your lower back plus baby weight. Usually kicks in second trimester and gets worse from there. Chiropractic therapy helps.

Sciatica – Baby sitting on the nerve. Or your pelvis is crooked and irritating it. Either way, sharp pain down your butt and leg. Sitting sucks. Sleeping on that side? Forget it. Therapy can relieve this.

Round ligament pain – Sharp stabbing when you move wrong. Those ligaments holding your uterus are stretching. Sometimes feels like you pulled something in your lower belly or groin.

Pubic bone pain – Front of your pelvis where the two halves meet. Walking hurts. Rolling over hurts. Getting in the car makes you want to cry. Pelvic therapy helps.

Hip pain – From spreading, from relaxin making everything loose, from sleeping on your side all night because that’s your only option now.

SI joint pain – Lower back/butt area. Usually one side worse than the other. Super common when you’re pregnant. Responds well to therapy.

Upper back and neck – Boobs getting huge, posture changing, carrying all that tension. Everything up top gets tight and angry.

Headaches – Hormones. Posture. Tension. Not drinking enough water. Pregnancy headaches are no joke.

Carpal tunnel – Hands swell. Compresses the nerves in your wrists. Wake up with numb hands. Worse at night for some reason.

How Prenatal Chiropractic Care Helps During Pregnancy

We adjust your spine and pelvis. Gently. Get everything lined up better so you function better and hurt less through pregnancy therapy.

Balanced pelvis gives baby more room to move into the right position. Crooked pelvis can make it harder for baby to flip head-down or push them into a weird position.

Studies show chiropractic therapy during pregnancy can reduce labor time. Easier delivery when everything’s aligned and moving right.

Everything’s modified for pregnancy. Lighter. Different positions. Safe for you and baby. This gentle therapy approach works throughout all stages of pregnancy.

Pelvic Balance Technique

We use a specific approach for pregnant women that focuses on balancing your pelvis and releasing tension in the ligaments holding your uterus. Some call it Webster technique, though we’ve adapted it based on what works.

When your pelvis is crooked or those ligaments are super tight, less room for baby. Harder for them to get into good position.

This technique fixes the crooked sacrum and loosens the round ligaments. Makes more space. Baby can move around easier.

Not turning the baby ourselves. We’re making the environment better so baby can move on their own if they want to.

We use this approach a lot in third trimester when baby’s position really matters.

Does it work for breech babies? Sometimes. Not a guarantee. But we’ve seen babies flip after balancing the pelvis enough times that it’s worth trying before you schedule a C-section.

When to Start Prenatal Chiropractic Care

Whenever it hurts. First trimester, second, third – whenever.

Some women start early because they already have a messed-up back and don’t want it getting worse. Smart.

Others wait till second or third trimester when the pain actually starts. That’s fine too.

Best case? Get checked early. Come throughout pregnancy. Stay comfortable the whole time. Better setup for delivery.

Had a woman come in at 38 weeks with a breech baby once. Could we help? Maybe. But earlier would’ve been way better.

What to Expect at Your Prenatal Chiropractic Visit

First time? We talk. What hurts? How long? Any issues with the pregnancy? Had other babies? Need to know what’s going on.

Then check you out. See how your spine and pelvis look. Watch you move. Find what’s not right.

Adjustments are gentle. Upright. Or side-lying. Or sitting. Whatever works.

Most women feel better right away. Not fixed, but better. Usually takes a few visits to really improve.

How often? Early on, maybe once or twice a month. Later when you’re huge and uncomfortable, weekly’s pretty common.

Is Prenatal Chiropractic Therapy Safe?

Yeah. When done by someone who knows what they’re doing.

We’ve treated hundreds of pregnant women over 14+ years with this therapy. Zero problems.

Everything’s modified. Lighter. No pressure on your belly. No twisting your torso around.

If you’ve got serious pregnancy complications, might not do therapy or we’ll check with your OB first. But normal pregnancies? Safe and helpful.

Research backs it up. Studies show prenatal chiropractic therapy is safe and works for pregnancy pain.

Denver Moms and Chiropractic Care During Pregnancy

Lots of active women in Denver. Used to hiking, running, working out. Then pregnancy hits and they can’t do what they’re used to.

That’s frustrating. Want to stay active but your body’s not cooperating. Back hurts. Hips hurt. Exhausted.

We help Denver moms stay as active as possible during pregnancy. Not telling you to stop everything. Helping you manage pain so you can keep moving.

See lots of first-time moms who don’t know pregnancy pain is this common. Think they just have to deal with it. They don’t.

Also see moms on their second or third pregnancy who had terrible back pain last time. Don’t want to go through that again. We keep them more comfortable this time around.

Working with Your OB or Midwife

We coordinate with your prenatal care provider. Not replacing them. Complementing what they do.

If your OB has any concerns about chiropractic care, we’re happy to talk to them. Usually they’re supportive once they understand what we do.

Some OBs regularly refer to us. They know their patients are more comfortable and have easier deliveries when they get adjusted.

We’ll communicate with your provider about your care if needed. Everyone on the same page for you and baby’s health.

Prenatal and Postpartum Chiropractic Care

Doesn’t stop when baby’s born. Your body needs help recovering.

Delivery is traumatic on your pelvis and spine. Even “easy” deliveries. Your body just went through major physical stress.

Plus now you’re holding baby constantly. Nursing. Not sleeping. Carrying a car seat. New physical stresses on your body.

We recommend getting adjusted soon after delivery. Within the first week or two. Helps your body recover faster. Reduces postpartum pain through chiropractic prenatal and postpartum therapy.

Many women continue care after delivery to address ongoing issues or just maintain their health while dealing with the demands of a newborn.

What We Don’t Do

We’re not medical doctors. Can’t prescribe medications or deliver your baby.

If you have pregnancy complications – preeclampsia, placental issues, threatened miscarriage – you need medical care. We can still potentially help with musculoskeletal pain, but your OB is managing the medical stuff.

We don’t claim to fix fertility issues or prevent miscarriage. Some chiropractors make those claims. We don’t.

What we do is help you hurt less during pregnancy and optimize your pelvic alignment for delivery. That’s it. That’s what we’re good at.

Stuff to Do at Home

We give you stretches and exercises that are safe for pregnancy. Help keep your pelvis and back stable.

Like:

  • Pelvic tilts
  • Cat-cow stretches
  • Hip stretches
  • Easy core stuff
  • Squats if you can handle them

Nothing intense. Just pregnancy-safe movements that help your body deal with everything better.

Also tell you what not to do. Some exercises that’ll make things worse or aren’t safe when you’re pregnant.

How to Sleep When You’re Huge

Sleep sucks when you’re pregnant. Belly’s in the way. Can’t get comfortable. Everything hurts.

Try this:

  • Left side (better for baby and your circulation)
  • Pillow between your knees
  • Pillow under your belly
  • Pregnancy pillow if you want to get one
  • Check your mattress isn’t ancient or too soft

Right position helps. Won’t fix the fact that you’re peeing every hour and baby’s kicking your ribs, but at least you won’t hurt as much.

Real Pregnant Women We’ve Helped

Sarah – First pregnancy. Lower back pain so bad she could barely work. Started care at 20 weeks. After three adjustments, pain reduced by 80%. Continued care throughout pregnancy. Had a four-hour labor. She swears it’s because we kept her pelvis aligned.

Jessica – Third pregnancy. Baby was breech at 36 weeks. OB said if baby didn’t flip they’d schedule a C-section. We worked on balancing her pelvis. Baby flipped within a week. She went on to have a vaginal delivery.

Emily – Sciatica during second trimester. Could barely walk. Couldn’t sleep. We adjusted her pelvis and worked on the muscles. Sciatica resolved in two weeks. Stayed comfortable the rest of her pregnancy.

Rachel – Hip pain so bad she was limping. Pubic symphysis dysfunction making it hard to walk or roll over. Regular adjustments kept her functional. She made it to 40 weeks without needing a walker or crutches like her OB said she might.

Real patients. Real relief.

Cost and Insurance

Most insurance covers prenatal chiropractic care. We verify your benefits before starting.

Even if you have a high deductible, most women find it worth paying out of pocket. Being comfortable during pregnancy and potentially having an easier delivery? Worth it.

We’re upfront about costs. No surprises.

When to Come In for an Appointment

Come in when you start hurting. Don’t wait until you’re miserable.

Early treatment means easier and faster relief.

Also book an appointment if:

  • You want to optimize your pelvis for delivery
  • Baby’s breech and you want to try pelvic balancing
  • You had back pain in a previous pregnancy and want to prevent it this time
  • You’re already getting chiropractic care and just got pregnant

Basically, if you’re pregnant and want to feel better or set yourself up for an easier birth, schedule an appointment.

What to Bring

  • Any pregnancy medical records you have
  • List of any complications or concerns
  • Comfortable clothes you can move in
  • Your insurance card

First visit takes about 30 minutes. Follow-up visits are shorter, usually 12-15 minutes.

Questions Pregnant Women Ask

Can I get adjusted in my first trimester? Yes. Adjustments are safe throughout pregnancy.

Will adjustments hurt the baby? No. We’re working on your spine and pelvis. Baby’s protected in the uterus. Adjustments don’t affect them directly.

What if I’m high-risk? Depends on the complication. We’ll coordinate with your OB. Many high-risk moms can still benefit from gentle chiropractic care.

Can you turn my breech baby? We don’t manually turn babies. We use treatments similar to Webster technique to optimize pelvic alignment so baby can move more freely. Sometimes they turn on their own. Not guaranteed.

How late in pregnancy can I get adjusted? Right up until delivery. Some women come in when they’re having contractions. We can still help.

What about after a C-section? Wait until you’re cleared by your doctor for normal activity, usually around 6 weeks. Then we can help your body recover.
